Song – Drive

A year or two back one of my musical compatriots asked if I fancied trying to make some new songs with him, I had nothing particular on at the time so I agreed.

We had a couple of practice sessions and then got down to writing. I had never really collaborated with anyone (other than my brother, who doesn’t count!) when composing so it was an interesting experience, however what my compatriot was best at was actually playing the music, although we worked on the structure and chords together, but he left the lyrics up to me.

I decided to try and set free my inner Swervedriver, so I put pen to paper and wrote a song about driving. While not in the league of Mr Adam Franklin, et al. I do believe I made a pretty good attempt at a roadworthy tune.

You can hear it here.

Dashboard constitution,
Headlights in my eyes,
Acceleration holds me,
Motor roaring lies,
Feel like I’m freewheeling,
Though my foot’s on the floor,
Driving forever,
Scenery forever more

Drive…
Burning rubber, burning mind,
Drive…
Turning over, turning blind,
Drive…
Not your friend, not your kind,
Drive…

First 2 bars no words

Tail lights in my eyes,
Listen to another song,
Leaving everything,
Travelling ’till I can’t go on,
Stop for the last time,
Looking back just feels so wrong

Drive…
Burning rubber, burning mind,
Drive…
Turning over, turning blind,
Drive…
Not your friend, not your kind,
Drive…

Solo

Drive…
Burning rubber, burning heart,
Drive…
Driven together, driven apart,
Drive…
Destructive ending, brand new start,
Drive…
Outro
